Broxburn win on penalties 4-3
Fauldhouse did really well to put this game on today with the previous days rainey weather. They did have the best of the first half but could never find a way through. The second half was also much the same but for some more clearer cut chances for both teams. Broxburn where cautious and had to scramble the ball away a few times in front of goals and looking to snatch a goal on the break. The match went to penalties and Gavin McCann help put Broxburn into the next round with some fine penalty saves.

Billed as the second most important cup after the Scottish Cup, Broxburn where first from the traps. Chilton was unlike himself and instead of being goalscorer was provider, setting up Gibson for the first goal in 5 minutes with a tap-in. Kelty weren't allowed to settle and a clever backheel from Chilton set-up Gibson to send a dangerous cross in. The ball was spilled and fell outwards towards the on-coming Cunningham and he smashed his shot into the top of the net. Broxburn where aware it would be a tough task to hold Kelty to 2-0 but 20 minutes later Kelty broke the offside trap for Currie to score Kelty's first. 10 minutes later Kelty where on the attack from a set-peice and the referee awarded a penalty for an infrigement to the rules only he knows what it was for. Mcdowel converted the spot-kick. Broxburn's tempers flared with the referee's one way traffic of decisions and came off the unhappier team with several bookings.
The second half seen that Broxburn weren't discouraged and after Young chipped the goalkeeper, Kelty had to clear the ball from the line to avoid Broxburn's third. It was Kelty's Courts who did get his teams third with a headed goal in the 6 yard box from a cross. 10 minutes from time and with Rarity getting rough treatment on the pitch, Rarirty was off injured receiving treatment and was refused back on to the pitch by the referee, due to the blood from his cut eye. Not allowing a sub, saying he would come back, 10 men Broxburn lost another goal when McDonagh scored. With the better team eventually going through, Broxburn could be heartened by giving another Super League team a run for their money.

Cole. Broxburn replied In the 28th minute Young flicked the ball to Chilton who finished in usual style. Penicuik made more chances and finally made it 2-1 in the 71st minute when Cowan was unmarked and scored with a header from a corner. In the 85th minute Cameron was pulled down in the box and a penalty was awarded and Cameron scored the spot kick. Broxburn fought back with minutes left on the clock when Young drove the ball into the far corner of the net, which Young deserved for the effort he was putting in. Two minutes into injury time, Broxburn looked for the equaliser and had 2 noteable chances but poor finishing left the better team on the day progressing to the next round.

Wilson
Broxburn opened the scoring in the first minutes of the game. A Campbell cross found Black who knocked it in from 5 yards. Broxburn had a clear cut penalty decision denied by the referee when a cross was totally missed by the Newburgh Goalkeeper who instead punched Fleming full on. Everyone was amazed when the Referee blew for a By-kick saying the 'Goalkeeper didn't mean it'. Fleming was took off injured and was replaced by Wilson. Wilson had been on for about 2 minutes when he scored. A Young cross found Gibson who's shot cannoned off the underside of the bar and rebounded to Wilson who shot high into the net. Broxburn had a let off when Newburgh's only chance of the first half was a cross which found the Newburgh striker with the goal at his mercy but thankfully was just a little behind the ball and missed. Broxburn lost some discipline because of refereeing decisions going against them and saw 5 yellow cards for dissent, one after the other. Newburgh got back into this game because of this distraction. McCann tried to clear the ball but his clearance found Newburgh's no.9 and he hit a lobbed shot over McCann. From this lift Newburgh scored a second and with things getting darker the match went to penalties. Both sides had excellent penalty takers with few missing but it was round 10 when Newburgh missed leaving Stuart Ritchie to take the glory.

Broxburn Athletic 0 Wishaw Juniors 1
Broxburn have never won a Scottish Cup tie this millenium so it was surprising to find Broxburn placed as 1/5 favourites. The players knew it would be a hard game none the less and found themselves 1-0 down after ten minutes. A free-kick tacken by Wishaw floated into the box and Stuart Ritchie's man had a free header to place beyond Gavin. It took 25 minutes for Broxburn to come into the game with Young's effort hitting the post. The next chance fell to Chilton was tried to smash home through a packed goalline which rebounded to Young and his overhead kick went over. Cunningham had a good effort put wide and Ritchie also came close with a header to end the first half with some belief a goal was coming.
Wishaw where always looking for a killer goal, which nearly came when a shot spilled under Gavin McCann and was cleared off the line by Rarity. Broxburn threw everything into getting a goal but where maybe too desperate towards the end, to create a real chance to equalise.

Thornton Hibs 0 Broxburn Athletic 1
Chilton
(From Thornton Hibs Website, Report by John Laing)
Just when it looked as if this Fife and Lothians Cup-tie was heading for penalty-kicks, Craig Chilton netted for Broxburn in the final minute. It wasn’t quite a smash and grab but Thornton, not for the first time this season, left the field unable to believe they had nothing to show for their efforts.
Broxburn had looked dangerous in the opening twenty minutes with Craig Chilton and Craig Young both coming close to opening the scoring but the Hibs came to life in the 21st minute when Stuart McDonald struck a sweet free-kick that brought out a top drawer save from Gavin McCann.
Three minutes later Ken Renwick had his jersey pulled in the area and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.Hibs’ top scorer, Graeme Dursley, took it but his aim was out and the ball whizzed harmlessly wide. The big striker came close to making amends shortly after when a good move on the left flank ended with Jimmy Shields flying by John Wilson and sending in a perfect low cross. Dursley connected well but Gavin McCann pulled off a stunning point blank save to prevent a certain goal.
Great skill by John Wright on the half way line took out two opponents and this allowed the veteran midfielder to stride forward purposefully before releasing the ball to Ken Renwick. He looked odds on to give the Hibs the lead but his shot did not trouble McCann.
In the second-half the closest the Hibs came closest to breaking the deadlock came when an Ian Hepburn corner-kick was cleared as far as John Wright lurking on the edge of the area. Wright’s first time blast looked netbound until Michael Gibson popped up on the line to clear.
As the fat lady began to clear her throat, the Hibs water bottles were re-filled to allow the players to take on board some fluids prior to getting down to penalties, however fate should never be tempted because with the Hibs’ players appealing in vain for offside Chilton coolly dummied his shot a few times before blasting the ball into the net. With only stoppage time left on the clock, Hibs mounted a last desperate attack and it almost paid off as Neil Sellars’ rasping 20 yard drive slammed off McCann’s crossbar. It just wasn’t Thornton’s day however and seconds later Michael Gill sounded his whistle to signal the end of this enthralling cup-tie that was sponsored by EDMUNSON ELECTRICAL LTD of Kirkcaldy.

(evening news) IN AN exciting first half Bonnyrigg created plenty of chances but scored only one goal which gave them an interval lead. After hitting the bar and post they finally scored in the 28th minute through Dean Walker. It was scant reward for a half they dominated though. In the second half, Broxburn, with the wind and slope in their favour, played a lot better and could have come away with a draw. Bonnyrigg's trialist keeper saved the day late on by denying Broxburn their best scoring chance of the game.

Dalkeith carved up the first chance of the game when their no.8 stepping by his man but McCann saved down at his feet when one on one. In the 25th minute Broxburn forced a corner and from the corner Craig opened the scoring with a header. Robinson put in his first appearance of the season today and was there on the half hour mark to fire in a rare goal from a rebound. It looked as if Broxburn where going to get a lot more goals today but credit to Dalkeith, they turned things arounds. A dubious penalty was awarded to Dalkeith. The referee blew when Wilson tripped up their Number 11 inside the box, even though their was a clear divot caused by the tackle outside the box. Dalkeith's no.4 converted the spot kick. In the second half brought a lot of pressure from Dalkeith. Rarity picked up his yellow card for a harsh tackle when after McCann saved and spilled, then Robinson saved a shot off the line, Rarity had seen enough and brought and end to the pressure. Black came on as a sub and put in a low cross, but Craig's shot was smashed off the post. Broxburn held on to record their first competitive win off the season.

(evening news) EXPECTATIONS were high on both sides with this being the opening game of the season and a local derby.
In the 31st minute the visitors were awarded a free-kick on the 18-yard line which Chris Norris fired into the net off the post. In injury time McCann brought off a good save from Millar to keep his side in with a chance.
In the second half Broxburn went straight on to the offensive and were rewarded seven minutes in when Black laid off for Steven Mackin to slam the ball into the roof of the net from ten yards.
Pumpherston substitute Stevie Dickov almost made an immediate impression when his first touch was a shot that went inches wide.
In the 74th minute Brian Quinn controlled the ball on his chest before driving a terrific shot into the corner of the net.
Broxburn equalised immediately when Wilson sent a long ball into the box which was brought down by a trialist who lobbed the keeper from eight yards. Malley brought off the save of the game from a Pearson rocket.
